Background
An owner-developer was building a 22,000 sq ft industrial shed in GIDC Vadodara and had engaged a contractor on a lump-sum basis.
Problem identified
Weighment slips did not match the bar bending schedule. Steel in the second slab was 14% below the sanctioned structural drawing.
Investigation
Our site engineer compared steel weighment slips against the bar bending schedule and the sanctioned drawing, and ordered an independent cube test.
Resolution
Work was stopped at the second slab, the contractor rectified at his own cost, and the structural audit was re-issued before the next pour.
Lessons learned
Payment must be linked to verified stage reports, not the contractor’s word.
